A great place to start is just simply looking at different play experiences to include with in your play area for example: Sliding, Rocking, Rotating, Climbing, Balancing, Swinging, Role Play, Education Play, Nature.
Always consider ages ranges, cater for them all but have gentle distinguished zones, still giving free flow of the entire area.
Positioning of equipment is very important, standards require specific distances between items, but an experienced designer will know all about the correct placing.
When we design a play area we endeavour to use all of the 10 play principles from Design for Play… click here to see more. If you consider all of these principles you will have a great place for all.
